When Conservatives Expand The Government?

Posted on 25. Jul, 2011 by in Uncategorized

They expand it in areas to limit our freedom – the Patriot Act, Homeland Security, the TSA, The War on Drugs, Defining Marriage, Blocking women’s access to healthcare..
When a liberal expands the government, it is to empower people.. Student Loans, Health care, Scientific Research etc..
Which group seems to favor freedom more?

They are not really conservatives. More like anarchists, oligarchist, bigots, racists, early stages of Alzheimer’s, ignorant fundamentalists.

Neither. Both policies encourage enslavement of citizens. One through overreaching military and government surveillance power without due process. The other through dependence on government for health care, food, housing, etc. Neither one encourages Independence or freedom in the long run.

As I remember, nearly every Democrat also voted in favor of the USA PATRIOT Act. They also helped fight the War on Drugs. Clinton was the one who passed Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
When a liberal expands government — such as the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban? Which destroys the Second Amendment?
Or they destroy private property by making me subsidize other people because I work?

I agree with you on the conservative expanses but not on the liberal expanses. When liberals expand government it is to attempt to fix something they’ve already screwed up like with student loans and health care.
Edit to Alan: No anarchist would ever pretend to be a conservative, we have enough conviction to say what we really are.

Empower people? HA! Yeah how much federal research money did any scientist get to confirm if global warming “hockey stick” was false?
Student loans and healthcare make the people beholden to the government and it also increases the costs because there is no price monitoring nor competitive bidding. Scientific research funding has now become a form of censorship as only those with ‘acceptable’ hypotheses will get funded. That is pretty much a dark age idea, wouldn’t you agree?

Just what is “empowering” about making people dependent on the government?
Here’s a question for you… Why does the government fund scientific research that is then turned into a product that we, the taxpayer, has to pay for it? Seems to me, that if we’re paying for the research with taxpayer money, we should own the outcome of that research.
Drug research is a classic example. The government pours millions of dollars into drug research… Pharmaceutical companies actually put very little of their own money into it UNTIL the government funded research discovers something promising. THEN they put their resources behind producing the product and then turn around and charge us through the nose for it.

“How did the Patriot Act expand government?” = Total disqualification from discussing policy.
Conservatives are authoritarians, the only freedom they believe in is economic freedom for the rich. They have never, nor will they, believe in actual liberties and civil rights. A majority of the history of liberalism has been fighting the conservatives to expand civil rights and freedoms to all people in society. This is a fight that the conservatives will not stop, but have continually been losing for decades. Conservatives only want the freedoms to have everybody live their lives exactly as they would live them as conservatives, anything else is dangerous, aberrant, and should be restricted.

I believe both sides can take the blame for the Patriot act.
The TSA was born under Bush and expanded under Obama.
SO, it looks like neither side.

Obama and the Democrats support the Patriot Act, Homeland Security, the TSA and The War on Drugs.
Higher spending by taxing the public higher and excessive regulations, policing the food choices of the people, limiting their right to own arms, regulation of speech through hate crime legislation…etc. There are plenty of way the Liberals take rights away from the people that don’t empower them.

You started out all right and then decided to dribble on. Defining Marriage and Blocking access to healthcare would not be expanding government. It would be decreasing involvement of government

If your going to make noise and rant. try talking points that are at least 1/2 true.
Lets destroy your myths. Patriot Act. Obama used it more than Bush ever did.
Obama resigned it into law. Extending it for years to come. Homeland Security,
Now here is one valid point you actually make. Should be abolished and the
agencys under the one flag returned to indvidual directors. TSA absolutely
should be abolished, War on Drugs Never happened only in the Buzz word
frame work. Womens access to health care. Not even remotely close to being
    correct.
I will take the programs that work for all of the American People. Not just Special
    Interest groups. Thanks.

You’re absolutely right. Conservatives talk about small government, when in reality they aspire to limit many individual rights to do with privacy, abortion, etc. This is completely hypocritical as they also want to be for ‘small government’ and ‘liberty’.
However liberals are just as bad, as when they talk about ‘empowering people’, they really mean that they want to forcefully take money from some people and give it to others. Liberals also try to limit economic freedoms and add more government controls into the economy.
In conclusion, (Social) Conservatives and Liberals are just as bad as each other.

lol. Don’t forget the military, a very socialistic group, is fully supported and the two wars we’ve been dragged into are costing millions. I think the hope was that Obama would get us out but he’s turned into a softie Retardican and we’re STILL stuck paying for wars
Funny the Tea Party says it takes it’s name after the Boston Tea Party that actually was about NO representation. These teabaggers are all about whining b/c they don’t understand the representation they have and want to bring down the economy b/c of it (which is spurred by who’s president).
