Is Cash In-hand Acceptable When A Tradesman Gives You The Choice?

I am just interested in your views, when a Tradesman offers a cheaper quote for work, if you paid him in cash, rather then a receipt with VAT added to the cost, which could amount considerable more.

it depends on your own views on the matter. a lot of tradesmen do this to fiddle the tax. which is illegal.
i personally would have no problems paying a tradesman in cash for a cheaper quote but some people like to do things by the book
